Why You Should Attend the 2020 PDE Conference in Hershey

From March 9-11 at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center (mere minutes from Hersheypark and Hershey‘s Chocolate World—yum!), this year’s PDE conference will explore the theme, “Making a Difference: Educational Practices That Work!”

The impressive roster of nationally known teachers, administrators, and other education experts who’ll be presenting includes three “can’t miss” keynoters:

  • Male keynote speaker in business suit, back to camera, addresses auditorium full of teachers and administrators at conference.Dr. Adam Saenz, author of the bestselling book The Power of a Teacher and others, will tell educators how they can build life-changing relationships with students, supportive relationships with students’ families, and resourceful relationships with colleagues.
  • Dr. Tyrone Howard, UCLA education professor, bestselling author, and founder and director of UCLA’s Black Male Institute, will reveal evidence-based practices for equitably serving society’s most vulnerable students.
  • Hamish Brewer, the tattooed, skateboarding, high-energy principal who’s turned around some of Virginia’s toughest public schools, will challenge attendees to be educational disruptors, unafraid of unsettling the status quo in order to advocate for and better serve all students.

A Tuesday afternoon poster session will feature presenters who use evidence-based practices in classrooms to address issues, such as helping students on the Autism spectrum using assistive technology, and implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) for reading, writing, math, and behavior. There’s no better way to get inspired about making a bigger difference for students than hearing firsthand accounts from educators getting significant, sustainable, positive results.

The 2020 PDE conference will also offer participants the chance to meet and talk with Carole Clancy and Amy Pastorak, Director and Assistant Director of the Pennsylvania Bureau of Special Education (BSE). If you’ve got questions about statewide policies and resources, here’s your opportunity to get answers straight from the source!
