Licensed Certified Mental Health (LCMHP) Professional
When students’ mental health needs go unmet, they face additional, compounding challenges to learning and development in a variety of contexts. Licensed Certified Mental Health Professionals (LCMHPs) step in to provide students with instruction, appraisal, advisement, short-term counseling, and referral services for both students and families.
At Pediatric Therapeutic Services (PTS) we partner with LCMHPs who engage with us. We offer personalized school placement, ongoing career development opportunities, therapist-designed resources, and a collaborative experience. PTS’s Multi-Disciplinary, Integrated, & Collaborative Approach to Mental Health
Taking an integrated approach allows therapists to learn from and incorporate tools and concepts from other related service providers. A few of these include sensory integration for self-regulation and strategies to facilitate social pragmatic language, as well as behavioral health support.
Therapists Use an MTSS Approach & Whole-Child Philosophy
PTS advocates with our partnering schools to incorporate a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) approach that serves more students without excessive increases in caseloads. This enables more students to have access to the supports they need while also reducing unnecessary referrals, over-identification, and disproportionality.
Your Students Move Through a Continuum of Support
As students move through their education and interventions, the support they need changes. This might look like increasing intensity and individualization of support during times of crisis or transition. At PTS, we enable students to access the appropriate level of support, regardless of where they are on the continuum to encourage capacity, not dependency.
How PTS Supports You as a School-Based LCMHP
If you want to support your students to the best of your ability, having a supportive team will make all the difference. As an independent contractor engaging with PTS, you will have access to:
- Available professional networking opportunities.
- Personalized school placement to ensure a good fit.
- Virtual lending library of evaluation materials and other resources to support you in your day-to-day work.
- Opportunity to attend optional School-Based Academy orientation for new school-based therapists every August.
When you engage with PTS team, you can also network and collaborate with fellow school-based therapists through our community Facebook.
Robust Referral Bonus Program
As a result of our supportive, collaborative, and team-based culture, we are proud to say that nearly half of our incoming contractors have been referred to us by other therapists, and we have a robust Referral Bonus Program!
Set Your Own Schedule as an Independent Contractor
In addition to these PTS-specific benefits, working as an independent contractor enables you to maintain a work-life balance that suits your lifestyle. It allows you to choose the schedule and assignments that fit your needs.
While therapists we engage with are independent contractors, they aren’t alone. When you work as a LCMHP independent contractor with PTS, you can count on access to guidance from our PTS Clinical Directors.
Working as a School-Based LCMHP in a Post-Pandemic World
Long after returning to in-person learning, schools have more students with mental and emotional health needs than ever before due to the compounding effects of COVID-19, including:
- Remote learning and social isolation
- Disruptions to school schedule and routine
- Continuous limitations to developing key skills
On top of these challenges, many students struggle to use masks, especially those on the Autism spectrum. At home, families may have and continue to face increased economic instability or have lost loved ones. Together, these factors have led to increased stress, anxiety, and distress for students, families, schools, and communities.
Containing Caseloads, Supporting Therapists
As a school-based LCMHP, you play a vital role in the lives of the students you serve, their families, the overall school culture, and the community at large. PTS’s MTSS approach and Whole-Child philosophy serve multiple purposes, including setting students up with the right level of support, containing costs for districts, and containing caseloads for LCMHPs.
We Create a Bridge of Communication Between Therapists, Teachers, & School Administrators
We want every student to get the support they need; this starts with offering therapists with access to the support they need. With the increased post-pandemic need and demand for services, this is more important than ever before. PTS advocates on behalf of its partnering LCMHPs and acts as a bridge of communication between therapists, teachers, and school administrators.
