School Psychologists Provide Vital Support for Students

When working in a school setting, psychologists like you provide a range of mental health services and support to students and families. By addressing the root cause of each child’s concerns, you give every child what they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond. A few of the many things you might do as a school psychologist include:

PTS Can Help You Add a School Psychologist to Your Team
  • Assessing students’ mental health conditions
  • Evaluating students’ mental health functioning
  • Completing and filing compliance documentation
  • Leading individual or small-group counseling sessions

Here at PTS, we use an Integrated Systems of Support Model in our partnering schools, which is based on the understanding that students benefit most when their interventions and related services are aligned.

As a school psychologist in this context, you’ll provide in-service trainings for teachers, administrators, and fellow clinicians to help them learn best practices for supporting students’ mental health needs, so they can fully access their education. By collaborating with other providers and staff, you’ll play a key part in supporting students’ health and well-being.

We Take a Tiered Approach to School-Based Mental Health Services

At PTS, we know that mental health is a crucial component of learning and development at any age. That’s why we also apply a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Model to therapy and related services to support all students, while simultaneously containing therapy caseloads. This model uses three tiers of interventions that can address students’ mental health needs and more, including:

  • Tier 1 at the classroom level,
  • Tier 2 at the small-group level
  • Tier 3 at the individual, therapy caseload level

By matching each student with the right level of support, this model acts as a functional safety net. Along with that, it moves students through a continuum of support as their needs change to build capacity, rather than dependency.

This model also ensures only students who truly need to be there get put on caseloads, so clinicians have more time and energy for each child.
