Key Roles of School-Based Social Workers
School-based social workers help address the social, emotional, academic, and physical needs of students, so they can access their education. Our approach enables students to move along a continuum of services as their needs change, including more comprehensive, individualized support when they need it during crises or transitional periods.
Throughout the day, school social workers who contract with us may perform any of the following services and much more:
- Train and consult with teachers and school administrators.
- Conduct assessments and complete social histories for students.
- Provide therapeutic services in an individual, family, or group settings.
- Lead school- or classroom-wide interventions to address common concerns.
The social workers who engage with us act as a bridge of support between both the school and home environments. They also regularly communicate and collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and other service providers.
PTS’s Whole-Child, MTSS Approach & Cross-Disciplinary Framework
At PTS, we take a Whole-Child Approach to special education and related services. This, along with our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) model, matches students with the right level of support, while cutting down on referrals, containing caseloads, and improving the delivery of services.
By incorporating Social Emotional Learning (SEL) practices into our programming and facilitating cross-disciplinary collaboration, PTS and the social workers who engage with us are also better able to address the root causes of each student’s concerns.
The Benefits of Working Alongside PTS as a School-Based Social Worker
As an independent contractor working alongside PTS, you have access to support when you need it. Our Clinical Directors often facilitate communication between service providers, teachers, and school administrators to improve delivery and implementation of interventions for each student.
We also offer an optional year-long School-Based Academy that starts every August. This experience helps new social workers learn to successfully navigate a school-based environment while networking with fellow social workers, therapists, and other service providers. In addition to that, we have a community Facebook group to connect and share resources.
Along with these perks, we are proud to say that nearly half of our incoming independent contractors have been referred to us by other therapists, and we have a robust Referral Bonus Program!
