World Behavior Analysis Day
Celebrate good times! Come on!
Many people are probably not aware that March 20 is World Behavior Analysis Day. This date is picked because it is B.F. Skinner’s date of birth, the American psychologist best known for his research and impact on the field of behaviorism.
While I understand that some of my friends and colleagues may not be as excited about Skinner’s birthday and Applied Behavioral Analysis as I am, I still encourage everyone to celebrate his or her unique likes and interests. The moment I discovered the field of Applied Behavior Analysis, I knew it was the field I was meant to have a career in. Prior to obtaining my education and credentials as a BCBA, I was never quite happy with my career and felt like I did not belong. Now that I am a BCBA, I look forward to work and I also take pride about discussing Behavior Analysis with others. My passion for this field continues to grow the more I get involved and embrace my Behavior Analysis “nerdiness”. Prior to being a Behavior Analyst, I would rarely talk about my career with others. Now, I am willing to discuss Behavior Analysis with everyone that starts a conversation with me. I have also networked and formed relationships with many others in this field. These relationships are not only valuable to me professionally, but personally, as well. Without Behavior Analysis, I would not be the adult I am today, so one day of unsolicited celebration a year seems minimal compared to the impact the field has had on my life.
So, I encourage everyone to recognize the unique activities and items that play a major role in theirs lives and celebrate them. You never know what you can gain by embracing your true self.
